We are multiple winners and finalists of the Commercial Mover Of The Year.

For 8 consecutive years we have been finalists in the removals industry’s Commercial Mover of the Year Award, eventually winning our category and Commercial Mover of the Year Award in 2009 for removals work undertaken commercially relocating the Sheffield Primary Care Trust.

British Standards:

Formal standards – which most people think of when ‘standards’ are mentioned – set out criteria that’s been agreed within our industry. They draw together best practice and expert knowledge from those in industry, government representatives, testing and certification organizations, academics, consumer groups, trade unions and most importantly businesses.

Specialised Movers believes in constantly evolving and improving our range of services. We undertake external auditing in all aspects of our work, with annual audits for British Standards.

Commercial Moving – BS 8522

The British Association of Removers and the Commercial Movers Group further developed a bespoke commercial moving standard the, BS 8522.  Specialised Movers were among the first 4 companies to achieve this accreditation, which is very prescriptive and covers the following commercial removal service areas:

  • Initial contact and preliminary information (removals enquiries, surveys and quotations)
  • Professionalism of the removals and admin personnel (performance and presentation)
  • Competence of operational personnel (experience, training)
  • Vehicles (suitability, condition and maintenance)
  • Packing materials (suitability and adequacy of range and stocks for different removal projects and objects)
  • Key documents – specific contents of removals quotation and job sheet.
  • Subcontracting removals services (control of subcontractors and ensuring consistent performance and compliance with the standard throughout a move)
  • Liability / provision of removals specific insurance
  • Claims and compensation for loss or damage during a move
  • Equipment (adequacy, training of removals operatives))
  • Health & Safety
  • Security
  • Monitoring the service (customer satisfaction analysis and follow-up post move)

  • Document control – The Standard is separate from, but related to, BS EN 12522-1, BS EN 12522-2, BS EN 14873-1 and BS EN 14873-2 covering furniture removal and storage services for private individuals, and is intended to establish a minimum level of service and performance. The Standard is audited annually by an independent assessor to ensure compliance.

Environmental Management Systems – BS EN ISO 14001

Specialised Movers realised that running a removal company may have certain detrimental effects to the environment. To combat this, our team needed to understand the impact of our actions and how we can improve them.

Therefore Specialised Movers have achieved the BS EN ISO 14001 Standard in Environmental Management Systems as a major step towards our responsibilities to the environment.

This international Standard specifies requirements for an environmental management system to enable Specialised Movers to develop and implement a policy and objectives which take into account legal requirements and other requirements to which the organisation subscribes, and about significant environmental aspects. It applies to those environmental aspects that Specialised Movers identifies as those which it can control and those which it can influence.

The Standard covers the following areas:

  • Environment – surroundings in which we operate including air, water, land, natural resources, flora, fauna, humans and their interrelation.
  • Environmental Aspect – activities or products or services that can interact with the environment.
  • Environmental Impact – changes to the environment whether adverse or beneficial, wholly or partly resulting from our actions.
  • Environmental Management System – to develop and implement our environmental policy and environmental aspects.

Information Security Management Systems – BS ISO IEC 27001

The new BS 8564 Quality Standard for Overseas Moving audits the core expectation of the international mover.

Secure Destruction of Confidential Material – BS EN 15713

Knowing who to trust to dispose of your confidential material or waste can be quite a daunting task. The consequences of entrusting confifential material to the wrong company can be quite catastrophoc to an individual or a company/organisation.

Specialised Movers are accredited and fully comply to the British Standard BS EN 15713 for the secure destruction of confidential waste materials.

Our operations are audited annually by external auditors.

When you simply just don’t have the space to store any more documents, or their time limit for storing them is up, then be assured that we will destroy your confidential material safely and securely. Whether it is one file, one box or hundreds/thousands of boxes it really doesn’t matter.

We will take on any sized work.

All our secure destruction work is done in-house. We do not sub-contract. Therefore we have complete control of all the collection and destruction processes, using our own staff and vehicles.

This British Standard for Confidential Destruction ensures;

  • Company Premises, where secure destruction must be isolated from other company activities.
  • Security, an approved security alarm system, a CCTV system to monitor any unloading, storage and processing areas.
  • Contracts and Audit trail, a written contract between you our customer and Specialised Movers.
  • Security Screening of personnel, all our are staff are security screened, and sign a deed of confidentiality.
  • Security of collecting vehicles and procedure for collection of confidential waste/materials.

We also destroy (or “wipe”) SIM Cards, Negatives, Video/Audio tapes, diskettes, Cassettes, Film, Computers including hard drives, software, chip card etc, id cards, cds, dvds, microfiche, credit and store cards, x-rays, OHP slides etc.

Storage of Furniture & Personal Effects – BS EN 14873

Moving your effects from one site to another is stressful enough. When you have to put your effects into storage then the stress levels may go through the roof!

Whether you are moving an office or home you need to be 100% sure that your effects will be safely stored in a dry and secure environment. Looking for a storage company can be confusing. What do you look for?

To further assure our customers about our storage facility we have become the first (and only) remover and storer in the region to have attained the British Standard 14873-1 and 14873-2 for the storage of furniture and personal effects.

This Storage Standard covers all storage activities that include:

Health & Safety Accreditations/Achievements:

When choosing your moving company it is extremely important that they are Health and saefty compliant. You do not need vehicles or operatives on your site creating hazards to your staff, visitors or even to themselves.

Look for any of the following Health and Safety Accreditations as a minimum requirement.

CHAS (Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme)

The CHAS health and safety assessment scheme is a pre-approval scheme to allow contractors to show potential clients that they meet the required health and safety standards.

The main purpose of CHAS is to avoid repeated applications by suppliers and contractors to become approved as local authority suppliers and to improve health and safety in businesses.

Whilst the CHAS assessment scheme is a local authority and government backed scheme, it can be used by any organisation looking to short list suppliers and contractors and can save time and money for all parties.
