MUSEUM MOVE – Cusworth Hall
Project: Cusworth Hall Redevelopment
Client: Doncaster MBC Museum Services
Location: Cusworth, Doncaster, South Yorkshire
Date: Summer 2007
Specialised Movers were employed by the Doncaster Museum Services in the summer of 2007 to replace all antiquity and effects that had been in long term security storage within the Doncaster area. We were approached because the previous removal contractor failed to comply to the high standards of instruction and had breached the time motion carrying system that the client had implemented.
Cusworth Hall is a Grade 1 Edwardian Stately Home that after years of neglect received a significant lottery aid grant, and with help from the National Trust underwent major work to reclaim its former elegance.
Over the Summer of 2007 Specialised Movers re-introduced various exhibitions and effects to final situ.
Pre Move: A structured induction was organised with the client and Specialised Movers shared information and evaluated the scope of works. Scope of Works: Specialised Movers fitted full protection to all stairwells, walkways and lift apertures at the newly furbished Cusworth Hall.
Working to normal time and motion and double carry constant technique we worked in cooperation with the client – we were monitored at all times and all transportation was recorded and logged.
Our lifting division were also employed to move all display cabinets from secure store. These units were top heavy and delicate. After final unit placement, fragile glassware and cosmetic jewellery was placed into these cabinets by Specialised Movers’ operatives.
The main attraction at Cusworth Hall are the Victorian kitchens, where mannequins are used to demonstrate scenes from yesteryear. Specialised Movers’ operatives moved all figures, stuffed animals and other kitchen effects. Patience was required as the mannequins were constantly moved to produce the best life-like effect. Specialised Movers on numerous occasions revisited Cusworth Hall to offer porterage and removal services since project completion.
