Project: Library Move
Client: Salford University
Location: Salford, Greater Manchester, Lancashire
Date: 2008

salford-universityThe Salford University Library Move was undertaken in partnership with Demco Interiors, with whom we have worked with on many previous projects.

“The Specialised Movers’ team worted, archived and moved over half a million books and half a million journals (enough to fill 33,000 crates or 100 x 40′ articulated trucks!) into holding areasand then resequenced once the refurbishment was finished.”

“One of the many challenges to was to create as little disruption as possible to students, staff and the library service.”

Throughout the Project, Specialised Movers moved –

8.5 miles of shelving
950 tons of books and journals
…and resited 1 million books and journals

….all moved, refurbished and relocated within a five week time frame.

Dave Worrall – of Demco Interiors – commented: “The fact is that a refurbishment is often logistically more complex than a re-build This project highlights what can be achieved by a close knit team with a high level of expertise. It should be an inspiration to other libraries who may be considering updating their facilities.”
