UNIVERSITY MOVE – SHU
Specialised Movers relocated departments from various Sheffield locations to SHU’s purpose-built HUB building OneEleven, migrating 400+ staff to 5 floors. Conducting removal services at the HUB demanded background knowledge of working in modern/futuristic environments, implementing full building protection with snagging reports at the end of each phased movement.
5 move phases were completed over Friday/Saturday with antisocial timescales. We were employed to decommission all IT before 9am (6 sites with 80 PCs) and pack into purpose-built crates using flat screen covers and antistatic bubble wrap. These then travelled to OneEleven to be placed to relevant desk numbers and unpacked/re-connected for re-patching, with completion prior to 9am to be back online asap. After each completed Phase, Specialised Movers returned to collection addresses to re-load with standard personnel crates (800+ per phase) continuously travelling from collection points to OneEleven. Pre-defined furniture also travelled to relieve pressure on spacial planning at OneEleven.
Specialised Movers divided operatives into 2 working teams of: Team Leader, Driver and 3 porters. We attended Revise & Review meetings every Wednesday at the Facilities Directorate Building, where we reviewed the previous weekend’s Phase and discussed new ideas to shorten movement timescales/improve our services and provided a weekly-updated Health & Safety report.
Our attention to minor details enabled us to commission and deliver services exceeding SHUs expectations, identifying/minimising risks throughout. We have since undertaken extra work for SHU, including confidential HR file relocation, where additional security measures were implemented to secure safe movement (the first time access to a preferred contractor had been granted – such is the level of trust between both parties).
Specialised Movers introduced a green option of decommissioning redundant furniture to reduce landfill.
