Project: Sheffield University Music Department Moves
Client: Sheffield University
Location: Sheffield, South Yorkshire
Date: 2008 to 2009

Specialised Movers – over the period of late 2008 early 2009 – completed the movement of the entire Music Department for the Sheffield University.

SHU-Music-DeptThe collection address had been the home of the music department for more than a quarter of a century and rapidly was becoming obsolete. Specialised Movers, over a period of 4 weeks, moved all the instruments some of which are very fragile and are of a considerable age, including Harpsichords dating from at least the turn of the 20th century.

Full protective packing and time handling needed to be incorporated. Problems arose at the delivery address when it became apparent that the antique instruments would not re-carry upstairs. Specialised Movers dismantled the instruments for transportation and re-assembled as required. We introduced their Hiab lifting vehicle which in turn required increased protective measures being implemented.

Specialised Movers are constantly requested to return to University site and move instruments to the Sheffield City Hall, Sheffield Drama studio, Sheffield Lyceum Theatre, Sheffield Crucible Theatre and also various Sheffield University venues. At the end of these load periods, Specialised Movers return and pick up and return the instruments to their original point of situ. This relationship is ongoing and has been in place for 6 years.
